Obituary of Mary Maria Moulton

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

After 97 1/2 years Mom has reached her eternal resting place.  2 Corinthians: 5:8.. Absent from the body to be present with the Lord.” Mary M Moulton of Burin Bay passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Saturday November 16, 2024. Devoted wife of 53 years to the late Frank Moulton.

Forever remembered by her loving daughter Karen and husband Peter Newton of Sault Ste Marie, ON and sons Derek and Irving. Caring grandmother and great grandmother to Michael (Heather, Matthew and Ella) of Ottawa, ON and Dwight (Suzette and Alexander) of Mississauga, ON. She leaves behind wonderful family friends who helped Mary continue to stay in her home until 97. Pearl Adams (late Winston Hollett), Judy and Freeman Collins, Cyril and Dianne Beasley and Agnes and Winston Pitcher plus a large circle of family and friends.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank, infant son and brothers George and Joseph.

Mary was the first born to Theresa (Dunne) and James Crews of Point Crewe, NL. She was followed by George (d.2023) and Joseph (d.1949). Mom was educated in a one room school and moved to Burin to begin her nursing aid training at the cottage hospital. She truly loved being a nurse and the highlight was attending the birth of the Edward’s triplets in 1947.
Mary met Frank and they married on June 12, 1951. She stayed at home to raise her family. She became involved in her church and held the fort as Frank travelled for his work. Their happiest years or golden years were enjoying their cabin on Old Mill Road. Tragically, after Frank retired he suffered two devastating strokes and her nursing skills were once again put into action to help Frank. She was an amazing wife and caregiver for the remaining 12 years. Driving them to places, meeting new friends and travelling to Ontario.
After Frank’s passing it was time for Mom to do the things she had more time for. Longer visits to Sault Ste Marie meant extensive shopping trips with Karen and making new friends.
She was delighted in attending her two grandsons university graduations and weddings. Celebrating her 90th birthday just as her youngest grandson was getting married. She loved to dress up! Her circle was complete this Thanksgiving when she met her youngest great grandson,Alexander. Four generations complete. A life truly well lived. Rest in heavenly peace.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nursing staff on Medicine and the other health professionals especially the SLP. Your care to Mary and kindness shown to her and her family are so greatly appreciated. Also, to her part homecare workers and to the exceptional staff at Marystown Retirement Center where Mary lived since April. She loved every day spent there.

A visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
