Hi Fabe and family....Lucy and other siblings....our sincere condolences on the passing of Martha.....she holds a special place in my heart. Spent lots of time over the years with this lovely lady. So many wonderful memories of one of my bingo buddies. My heart breaks for all of you today. Hopefully your memories will comfort you in the days ahead.
Wish I was handy to do a good ol' fish platter like I did one time before for one of the family members who passed and I can't for the like me remember which one. I know the crowd from away loved it.

You were so much more than an Aunt. You were my other Mom. From as early as I can remember, you always took care of me as if I was one of your own. I never felt like I wasn't an immediate part of this family. You took me camping; you always made room for me at the table and in the car on Sunday afternoon drives that always ended with custard cones; you took me on trips when it was just you & me flying to Toronto to visit family; you took me under your wing when you should have been too busy taking care of everyone else and you were ALWAYS there no matter what. From the memories of bringing up the Baby Jesus on Christmas Eve mass, showing up in St. John's for my graduation and being there when I woke up from surgery, you played such an integral role in my life. The many, many summer nights staying up til 3am or later playing cards; lots of bingo nights and just sitting around have cups of tea - these memories will be cherished forever. I know I put this on your farewell flowers: To my other Mom... "When God assigned Mothers, he took into view, that maybe their role would require two. She's made in his image, selfless and true, when God created Mothers, he blessed me with two". You and Momma were so close and I absolutely loved being part of that. Two gentle souls that could have easily been bitter with the hardships you endured but you both chose the higher road and instilled love, family values and a welcome to everyone that ever walked through the door. It broke my heart to get that call:( I'll love you forever & you'll always have a huge part of my heart. Until we meet again...

We were all saddened by the news of Martha's sudden passing on Saturday. Our families have been neighbours for about 60 years. "Mrs. Martha and Mr. Fabe", as we called them growing up, had their 10 children and Mom had her 6 - 16 children in all and many a cup of sugar, a tin or milk or the like went back and forth over the fence over the years. Martha and Fabe were always good to our family when Dad died and particularly to Mom when we all left home and for that we are eternally grateful. As I remember, Martha never stopped - how could she with 10 children. She always found time though to enjoy her beloved game of bingo and Martha and the ladies from the neighbourhood - Mom, Aunt Dora, Lucy, Mrs. Philomene, Mrs. Madeline Drake, Mercedes and others would have a game of Romoli on Sunday nights. They would take turns going to each other's homes for a game and a mug up after. Great times were had by them all. I have many fond memories of Martha as we grew up next door - she seemed to be always making bread and I can still remember her toutons and baked squid. It seemed she was always cooking! And let's not forget the Christmas trees that Mr. Fabe had to "make" for Martha each Christmas as she was so particular! Martha had such spirit and love of life and sense of humor - no matter what was thrown at her - and goodness knows she has had her trials and tribulations over the years - she was always quick with a smile and a story to make you laugh. I remember particularly, when we were home for Mom's funeral last year, that she regaled us with stories of the goings on in the two homes from years gone by. We always came away from next door with a smile. Our thoughts are with you all at this time - Mr. Fabe and Gene, Kit, Phil, Dale, Larry, Derek (Tiny), Frank and Greg and their spouses and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren and Fabe and Martha's extended family - our sincerest condolences to you all. Dear Fabe & family; I am so sorry for your loss of a very special wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, and the list goes on. She was the first person to teach me how to make bread, and was I surprised at how many loaves she made almost daily. I will treasure my wonderful memories of the summer I spent there and how she went easy on Kit, Dar & I for being pranksters. Your loss is great but she will always live on within your hearts & memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I know that Greg & my mum would have been by your side in a heartbeat, but due to their health issues, they are unable to be there.
