Obituary of Gary Roy Beck

It is with immense sadness that the family of Gary Roy Beck announces his sudden passing at his home in St. Lawrence on Monday January 29th, 2024 at the age of 65.

Leaving to mourn with precious and loving memories by his loving wife of 41 years Daphne Beck; mother Bernice Green of Epworth; son Justin Beck; his brother Harold Beck (Maxine) of St. Lawrence; brother and sister-in-laws, Florence Harnett, George Slaney (Carol Ann), Marcel Slaney (Marie), Ronnie Edwards (Bren), Russell Slaney (Tracey), Delsey Kelly (Harry); his special friend, Brandy who is honestly a man’s best friend as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews as well as a large circle of family and friends.

Predeceased by his father, William Beck; brother-in-laws, Don Harnett and Placid Slaney; his mother and father-in-law, Lucy and George Slaney; stepfather Adolph Handrigan.

Gary Beck was born in St. Lawrence, June 10, 1958 to his mom, Bernice and dad, Bill and older brother Harold Beck.
Gary grew up in the "Dock" - the people of St. Lawerence may truly  understand what it meant to survive youth in the Dock in those times. At 19 years old, Gary met 16 year old Daphne, it was love at first sight.  He soon came to realize that he had just gained 3 more sisters and 3 brothers. They were married after 5 years of dating and after 19 years of marriage, their family was complete upon adopting their son, Justin.  Gary was a adoring husband and adoring father. His love For his wife and son was immeasurable. On December 9, 2023, Gary and Daphne celebrated 41 years of marriage.  
Gary was a hard worker and put his hand to several professions. In the 70’s, he started fishing with his dad.  Later in the 80's, he ran his own Taxi service called, Becks Taxi. Later, he followed in his father’s footsteps and opened his own convenience store, called Gary’s Variety.  In 2002, Gary started working for OCI in St.Lawrence.
Gary was loved dearly by many friends over the years. He loved a good yarn, a beer and a game of darts.  He enjoyed going long walks with his loyal, Golden Retriever, Brandy  Gary would take Brandy for rides in his red truck & Brandy loved to hang out the back window.
He was an animal lover and had many special pets including Smoky the cat and dogs; Pierre, Whiskey, Piper, Purdi and his dearest dog, Brandy -"Man’s Best friend".
The highlight of 2023 is was when he had a proud father moment as Justin shot his first moose.  
Gary lived a simple life. He touched many lives on first impression with his sense of humor and wit. He was a man of integrity, a solid rock and anchor for his family. Gary will be missed but never forgotten. Rest easy husband, father, son, brother, & uncle.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 2:00pm - 9:00pm from St. Matthews’s Anglican Church, St. Lawrence.

Funeral service will take place on Friday February 2, 2024 from St. Matthews's Anglican Church, St. Lawrence 2:00pm with interment following at St. Matthews Anglican cemetery.
