Obituary of Bernice Beazley

Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our Mom, Bernice Beazley (formerly of Big Salmonier), passed peacefully away at the age of 88 years at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on Monday, October 23, 2023 with family at her side. She took her last breath, left her pain behind, and went to join her husband in Heaven.

Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of memories are her son, Brian (Bonnie); daughters, Kim (Steve) and Gloria (David); grandchildren, Heidi (Scott), Ken (Claudia), Courtney, Matthew (Brianna), Adam, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Violet, Alexander, and McKenna; brothers and sisters, Gerald (Glynda), Bill (Vera), Tom (Marg), Eugene, Eldon,  Irene, Shelia (Levi), Eric (Marie), Mabel (Nick), and Yvonne (Alvin); sisters-and brothers-in-law, Maxine Mayo, Robie Beazley, and Muriel Mayo; and a large circle of nephews and nieces.

Predeceased by her husband, Boyde Beazley; sons-in-law, Glenn Butler and Terry Shank; brothers, Wes Mayo, Les Mayo, and Freeman Mayo; sisters, Mary Greatrix and Rose Brenton; brothers-in-law, Gordon Brewer and Sam Beazley; sisters-in-law, Gloria Mayo, Elsie Mayo, Shirley Mayo, Sadie Hannam, and Jean Joyce; nieces, Valerie Mayo and Wendy Mayo; and nephew, Dean Mayo.

Mom was born on September 18, 1935 in Foote’s Cove (a small island in Burin Harbour) to Arch and Mabel Mayo. She helped raise her brothers and sisters before going to Fortune to teach for a year. After working for a couple years, she moved to Toronto where she worked in a bank and met the love of her life. They married and had three children. In 1967, they decided to return to Newfoundland to raise their family. Mom worked part-time for a while, but was mostly a stay-at-home mom.

Mom was an active member of the church community, and supported both the United Church and Salvation Army. She loved traditional gospel music and watching worship services on TV. Reading Christian fiction novels was one of her favorite ways to pass the time. Embroidery was an art and skill that she had perfected; the proof of which can be seen in her many pillowcases and tablecloths. However, what brought Mom the most pleasure was cleaning and scrubbing; she took pride in a clean house.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Blue Crest Nursing Home for the care they provided the past two months. Their understanding, compassion, and kindness will always be remembered.

Mom was a big supporter of the local food bank. Any donations in her memory will be forwarded to the Burin Area Food Pantry Inc.

Family will be receiving friends at Serenity Funeral Home Burin on Thursday October 26, 2023 from 10 AM to 9PM.

Funeral service will take place from Hope United Church, Lewin's Cove on Friday October 27, 2023 2PM with interment following at Hope United cemetery, Lewin's Cove.
