John Planke

Obituary of John William Planke

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness the family of John Planke of Port au Bras announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on October 18, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

John was married to the love of his life Ida for 55 wonderful years. They raised 3 wonderful children together. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. When he was sick even on his worse days his eyes would light up and a beautiful smile would appear when his grandkids visited. John was a very quiet man, a man of very few words but always loved having company and listening to his music. He could be seen often on his patio with his eyes closed just listening to some of his favorite singers Lloyd Snow and Brian Finn just to name a few. He was always there to help anyone and give a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved to go trouting and camping with his family. In his younger days he loved listening to the ham radio and spent hours doing so. John will be missed by all his family and never forgotten. His memory will live on in his family.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Ida of 55 years; son George (Glenda) of Burin; daughters Sadie Lundrigan (Danny) of Port au Bras and Roxanne Regular (Craig) of Grand Falls; grandchildren Christian, Michael, Aleasha, and Alyssa; great grandchildren Layla and Allen; brothers George (Blanche) and Wayne (Lois); sister Sybil Kennedy (predeceased by husband Kevin); brothers-in-law Levi Barnes (Eliza), Ches Barnes (Geraldine), Jerry Barnes and Hubert Barnes (predeceased by wife Ramona); sisters-in-law Julia Randell (Tom) and Sadie Skinner (Willy) plus a large circle of other family and friends.

Special thanks to his home care workers Kenny Foote, Johnny Fleming and John Cheeseman and the doctors and nursing staff at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center.
