Alma Pike

Obituary of Alma Lorraine Pike

The Pike Family is sad to announce the passing of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Alma Pike of Burin Bay Arm. She passed peacefully at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on January 3rd, 2019. Alma was in her 97th year.

She was born on January 23rd, 1922 and was blessed with a loving husband, George, for nearly 75 years before he predeceased her in January 2014.  Together they had nine children and had the joy of watching them grow the family with 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, all of whom are left to celebrate Mom and Dad’s long lives and remember the legacy they built. Their children are (in birth order) Harvey (Mary), Reynolds “George” (Wendy), Marilyn (Richard), Glenn (Noreen), Roy (Ruth), Lorraine (Bernie), Clyde, Allan (Rebecca), and Yvonne (Al). Alma leaves behind a large circle of friends from Pearce High School, summer camping, church, and the Marystown Retirement Centre. Alma was an honorary member of the United Church Women’s group in Burin Bay Arm, and dearly loved her sisters-in-faith. Together they brought many hours of laughter to audiences from around the peninsula when they “put on” their concerts, in many of which she had the great pleasure of being one of the stars! Alma loved to socialize, and people loved meeting her. She formed very special bonds with her caregivers Julie and Patsy during her five years at the Marystown Retirement Centre, and the family will forever be grateful for the special care, consideration, and attention given to our Mother by all the staff at the Centre. She enjoyed the attention, the camaraderie, the music and the celebrations with you all. You truly made her last years much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Mom had a strong faith, and in her final note to her family, she told us “I’m not gone; I’m just next door waiting for you”.

Alma is resting at Serenity Funeral Home in Salt Pond Friday, Saturday and Sunday 2-4PM and 7-9PM.

Funeral service to be held on Monday, January 7th. at 2:00 p.m. from Bethany United Church in Burin Bay Arm. Interment to follow at United Cemetary, Burin Bay Arm.
