Obituary of Emily Marie Grikis

With heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Marie (Emily) Grikis at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Marie leaves behind her forever loving husband, Rick (Richard); her devoted son, Daven Grikis (Amy McGrath); and her cherished grandchildren, Clare and Sarah Grikis. She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Thomas and Bernice Bennett, and her brother, George Bennett.

Left behind with fond and beautiful memories are her brother, Paul Bennett (Myra), and their children, Trevor and Melissa; George’s wife, Mary, and her children, Christine Bunting (Stewart) and Ramona Roberts (Corey); her sister-in-law, Kristine Grikis, and her children, Sara Simpson (Paul) and Jessica Simpson-Pierre (Oddy); and her brother-in-law, Allan Grikis, and his children, Joey "Joe" Grikis (Jessie) and Laena Grikis-Norman (Jeff).

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Aunt Emily Smith (Irving) and cousins Tom, Caroline, Barbara, Yvonne, Cheryl, Fred, Alex, Jeff, and Joanne. Deep gratitude is also shared with the Bennett, McGrath, Hicks, Vanilainen, and Uitto families, alongside many other close friends throughout Newfoundland and Ontario. Special thanks are given to the wonderful, caring staff at the Dr. S. Beckley Health Centre, the Medicine Ward at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, the professional staff at Serenity Funeral Home, and Reverend Georgina Parsons for their exceptional care and support.

Family visitation will take place at Serenity Funeral Home, 13 Church Street, Grand Bank, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Public visitation will follow on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 13 Church Street, Grand Bank,

A  funeral service will take place from the Serenity Funeral Home chapel in Grand Bank on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. In keeping with Marie’s wishes, cremation will follow the service. 

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of Serenity Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice or to the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre.
