Obituary of Gilbert “Ralph” Blundon
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gilbert "Ralph" Blundon on Sunday, June 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, at the age of 72 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Fern and Gilbert Blundon; his parents-in-law, Josephine and Hubert Balsom; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Barry Osmond; his brother-in-law, Jim Balsom; and his sister-in-law, Karen Blundon.
Ralph is lovingly remembered and survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Janice; his daughter, Nicole (Ryan); his son, Ryan (Lezley); and his cherished grandchildren, Kiah, Tyler and Charlie Blundon.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Gloria (Glenn) Loveless, Brenda (Don) Humby, Wayde (Ruth) Blundon, Joann (Ron) Dyke, Cameron (Lila) Blundon, Dave (Tracey) Blundon, Suzette (Ralph) Blundon, and Trevor (Debbie) Blundon; as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Sherry (Garry) Randell, Bryan (Connie) Balsom, Paula (Doug) Short and Diane Balsom. Ralph will also be fondly remembered by a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The family extends a special thanks to Val Holloway and Linda Simmonds for all of their extra support during this time.
Ralph was a man who found his greatest joy in the simple things in life—family, friends, the outdoors, and the cabin he loved so dearly at Ocean Pond.
From an early age, Ralph developed a deep love for nature while spending time fishing, moose hunting, and working in the woods alongside his father and brothers. Whether at the sawmill, in the forest, or on the water, he was happiest surrounded by the outdoors and the people he loved. He also had a special affection for animals and appreciated all creatures great and small. Ralph shared a remarkable 48-year marriage with the love of his life, Janice. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. The two were inseparable, enjoying trouting, campfires, side-by-side rides, social gatherings, and time spent with friends and family at their beloved cabin in Ocean Pond. They attended every family event with enthusiasm and were always ready for fun. Their home and cabin were places where everyone felt welcome, no matter the time of day or night.
Ralph was a dedicated and hardworking man who took great pride in his career as a meat cutter. He spent 38 years working at the Co-op Grocery Store. Following his retirement from the Co-op, Ralph continued doing what he loved, spending another 7 years cutting meat at Pye's Meat Shop. He genuinely enjoyed his work and took pride in his work, building many lasting friendships throughout his career.
A devoted father, Ralph was always there for his children. His daughter, Nicole, could call on him for anything—whether it was a ride, a fishing trip, advice, support, or simply a chat. He deeply loved and respected his daughter-in-law, Lezley, and greatly appreciated Ryan, Nicole's partner, who was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support.
Ralph shared a special bond with his son, Ryan. Together they enjoyed woodworking and spending time creating projects in their spare time. Ryan always knew he could depend on his father, no matter the circumstance.
Nothing brought Ralph greater pride and happiness than his grandchildren, Kiah and Charlie. He adored them beyond measure, and his love for them was unconditional. They were truly the light of his life.
Many summer days were spent recreational fishing with his brother, Cam, creating memories that Ralph cherished. He especially looked forward to moose hunting season and any opportunity to be outdoors with family and friends.
Known for his calm demeanor, kind heart, quick wit, and sense of humor, Ralph was the type of person who made everyone feel at ease. Many people who weren't related to him affectionately called him "Uncle Ralph" because of the warmth, kindness, and respect he showed to everyone he met.
Ralph's legacy is one of love, loyalty, generosity, and family. He will be remembered for his welcoming spirit, his unwavering devotion to those he loved, and the countless memories he created with family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love and lessons he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In keeping with Ralph’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A graveside service and inurnment of ashes for Ralph will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2026 at 2:00PM at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend.
