William (Bill) Walsh

If you knew Bill Walsh, you knew love, laughter, and a good time.

It is with heartbreak that our family announces the passing of Bill, 82, of Burin. Bill passed peacefully on April 22nd at the Burin Peninsula Healthcare Centre.

Born on September 26th, 1943, to James (Jim) Walsh and Georgina Walsh (Edwards), and lovingly raised by Elizabeth Bonnell in Lawn, Bill grew up alongside his siblings Ray (the late Phillis), Celestine (Yvonne), Violet (John), Beatrice (the late Jimmy), and the late Mary (the late Roy).

He married his adoring wife, Mary, of 60 years on September 7, 1965 and together they had 3 children, Marilyn, Mike, and Lisa who were his entire world.

Bill was a hardworking man, working as Production Manager FPI Marystown and later on Procurement Manager until he retired.

Bill will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends, especially his wife Mary, who was by his side for 60 years, making sure he was cared for, always comfortable, and that he had a hot and healthy meal every single day. They were best friends and soulmates. That love will last forever.

His children Marilyn Nash (Kenneth Ackerman), Mike Walsh (Nicole Walsh), and Lisa Abbott (Dwayne Abbott) all thought of him as their hero. He always had the answers, the jokes, and worked hard to ensure they always had what they needed and more. They will always remember him with a smile on his face, his silly nature, and his exuberant personality.

His grandchildren Alicia Fitzgerald (Ryan), Allison Inkpen (Johnathan), Alexandria Hare (Stephen), Marissa Walsh, Melanie Walsh, and his boy Carter Abbott (Cassandra Drake), grew up knowing they had the best poppy, and have countless fond memories to hold dear.

He adored and cherished his great-grandchildren Connor and Kennedy Fitzgerald, Rachel and Madelyn Inkpen, and Penelope, Reece, and Joyner Hare, loving when they visited and seeing their pictures and videos.

A special thank you to the wonderful Dialysis unit at the Burin Hospital for taking such good care of Bill over the years. Especially Brenda, the two Sheenas, Cheryl, Denise, Emily, Linden, and many more. He spent a substantial amount of time with the nurses and his fellow patients, who he referred to as his “Dialysis Family.” As a family, we cannot begin to express our gratitude for the care these wonderful nurses and dialysis doctors showed Bill for over 15 years.

In addition, we would like to say a thank you to all of the doctors and nurses of the emergency department of the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre. His love will live on in all those who had the utmost privilege to have known him.

Bill is predeceased by his sister Mary Broderick, son-in-law Burch Nash, great-grandson Caleb Fitzgerald, and other members of the Walsh family.

Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Sunday, April 26th 12:00-4:00pm followed by visitation and celebration of life 6:00-8:00pm.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place
