Obituary of David Udell
David was born in Belleville, Ontario on April 24, 1952. David was a private person, a no-nonsense kind of guy who had the kindest eyes, calm, steady and full of quiet understanding. Though naturally reserved his warmth was deeply felt by those around him. He carried a quiet presence never seeking the spotlight (unless having a beer) yet grounding every room he entered. David had a profound sense of humor that was loved by all who knew him.
His passions were Trivial Pursuit, stained glass and looking after Deb. His famous words were, “Seriously, is that really a good idea Deb?” And then he would agree to do whatever she asked or tell others it was his idea.
In their 41 years of marriage, they moved 8 times and they had 23 fur-legged children. It was David’s idea to retire in Newfoundland. After he moved here, he used to say this is not a different province, it is a different country, but he did live in Burin Bay. He was a minimalist, cherished what he had and truly appreciated the little things in life.
David was a social worker, bar tender, Horticulturist, ran a pet sitting business, managed a 64 unit apartment building and for the last 20 years of his career he worked with Canada Post as a letter carrier walking 17km per day.
He will forever be missed by this wife, Deb, family, and a large circle of friends.
In David’s wishes, there will be a private family celebration of life at a later date. The family appreciates your thoughts and support at this time. Today, in David’s honour, take a moment to slow down, listen deeply and make someone feel seen – just as he did.
