Joe was a hard-working man who always had a smile on his face. Many knew him from his years at Grand Bank lumber company where, so many times, he opened the shop during off hours because someone needed a tool or more nails to finish a weekend project, or many knew him as the weekend Foote’s taxi driver going back-and-forth to St. John’s. He also spent several years as the gas attendant at Corner Auto Body pumping full serve gas and handing out dog treats to all the four legged customers (they were his favorites!).
Many people knew him from his time spent being involved in various groups around town. He was a Boy Scout leader as well as a dedicated member of the Salvation Army Men’s Service Club where he was not a great actor but still managed to play a part in the Christmas play every year. He also volunteered with RCSCC 71 Altantic sea cadet corp where he ended up taking an unplanned trip to St. Pierre and called his wife from the island to let her know he wouldn’t be home for supper.
In his personal time, Joe loved to putter around in his shed attempting to fix those 10 small appliances that he swore he’d get to “one day”. He also loved to spend time at the cabin and go moose hunting with his father and brother where, one year, they almost got the camper and truck stuck trying to cross a “small” pond. However, his one favourite pastime, above all others, was shopping for deals, especially on groceries! His family would never starve if the apocalypse ever hit!
Joe was amazingly kind, genuinely good and extremely funny man (which resulted in only about three sensible pictures of him in his entire life). He has left anyone who knew him with a lifetime of great memories and a lesson that life should not be taken too seriously. He will be greatly missed on a daily basis by many, many people.

"He lived his life like a well-oiled machine—occasionally loud, prone to backfiring after a big dinner, but always reliable when it counted.
He ignored his own 'Check Engine' light for years because he was too busy fixing everyone else’s. We hope heaven has plenty of WD-40 and no rusted bolts."
