Obituary of John (Jack) Sibley
John “Jack” Sibley
1938 – 2026
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and brother, John “Jack” Sibley, on Friday, March 13, 2026, in Stephenville, Newfoundland, at the age of 87 years, following a short illness.
Born on August 14,1938, in Ramea, Jack was the son of the late Jack and Beatrice Sibley. In March 1959, Jack married the love of his life, Bessie Jane, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They often shared a laugh over the fact that they were wed in a round church, jokingly claiming Bessie Jane could never "corner" him to get him home. Their beautiful partnership lasted 63 years until her passing in 2022.
For over 60 years, Jack’s life was tied to the water, working on various fishing vessels and lake boats. For the last 40 years of his career, he served as an engineer on the Ramea ferry, a role he took great pride in.
Beyond the shoreline, Jack was a pillar of his community, celebrating his 50th year as a dedicated member of the Lions Club in 2026. As a long-term member of the Ramea Lions Club, he served as treasurer and secretary for many years, headed numerous conventions, and was a familiar face behind the bar at the community centre. An avid collector known well to the folks at eBay, Jack spent his time hunting for Lions pins, beer labels, and stamps. Whether he was conversing on the slip or spending hours with his shed buddies, Jack lived with a spirit of service and camaraderie.
