Obituary of Larry Brewer
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother Larry Brewer on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre at the age of 79 years.
Larry leaves behind his treasured wife Monica of almost 56 years; they built a life centred on family, friends, and great adventure.
He will be forever loved and missed by his daughter Denise (Rick) of Bruderheim and son Dean of Epworth; grandsons Christopher and Dylan; granddaughter, Sophie; precious great-granddaughter, Layla and great grandson, Jacob who brought him immeasurable happiness.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Judy Kirby, brother Don Brewer (Brenda); sisters-in-law Joan Upshall (Roy), Helen Foote (Tom), Hilda Coady (Tom); brother-in-law Steve White and a large circle of nieces, nephews and cabin buddies.
Larry is predeceased by his parents David and Dorothy Brewer, parents-in-law Joseph and Margaret White, sister Marilyn Beazley, sister-in-law Mary White, brother-in-law Ches Kirby, and nephew Jonathan Kirby.
Larry was a man of remarkable warmth whose life was defined by a generous spirit and a deep, abiding pride in his family. He served proudly with the Canadian Rangers for 47 years and held a special place in local history as the last man to leave the Burin fish plant when it closed its doors in 2012. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, infectious laughter, and an unwavering devotion to those lucky enough to be in his inner circle.
His passion for cabin life was truly legendary. He and Monica packed up every weekend to head to the cabin, a place that fueled his lifelong love for the wild. Larry lived for the seasons—salmon fishing in the spring and moose hunting in the fall—sharing the quiet camaraderie and rugged beauty of the land with those he loved. Foremost, he cherished the time spent with his cabin buddies, sharing stories and the unique bond of life in the woods.
When he wasn't in the brush, Larry was often found at the table for a game of Crib, where his wit and competitive spirit shone through. Above all else, he was a devoted Pop to his grandkids, who were the light of his life.
Larry possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a rare perspective on life—he could find something to smile about in any situation, ensuring that everyone around him felt his joy. Whether he was counting a hand of Crib, exploring the woods with Monica, or relaxing at the cabin with his cabin buddies, Larry lived with a fullness of spirit that we will never forget.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, cremation has taken place.
