Obituary of Sharon Mary Manning
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sharon (Fowler) Manning on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the age of 70. Sharon passed away peacefully at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, leaving behind a legacy of love as a cherished mom, aunt, and friend. Her warmth and kindness will always be remembered.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Susan Manning, son-in-law Michael Schwinghamer, and son Jonathan Manning. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Glenda Beck (Henry) of St. Lawrence, Jim Drake (Donna) of Burin, Tanya Drake of Victoria, Lynn Stacey (Hubert) of St. Lawrence, Judy Byrne (Terry) of Guelph, Wade Drake (Maxine) of Wabush, Jim Fowler of Bobcaygeon, Bill Drake (Marie-Luce) of St. Pierre, Cyril (Vicky) Drake of Bay Bulls, and Noel Drake of Grand Prairie. Additionally, Sharon is survived by her in-laws: Bonnie Tobin (Brian Farrell) of Epworth, Gerald Moulton of Epworth, Pauline (Dave) Beazley of Epworth, Joe (Paula) Manning of St. Phillips, Lillian Walsh of St. Lawrence, Fred Cleal of Marystown; her special aunt and friend Barbara Manning of Epworth; cousins Alison Manning (Jeremy Peddle) of Burin, Erin Manning (Steve Wheeler) of St. John’s; and close friends Brenda Gleason, Carmel Healy, Sadie Kelly, Jean Slaney, Doreen Cluett, Rosalie Dupre, Brenda Bennett, Marion Antle, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sharon spent a long career as a nurse at the Burin Cottage Hospital, US Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence and later the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre where she touched the lives of thousands of patients and their families. In her retirement, she kept consistently busy by crossing destinations off her travel bucket list, volunteering with the Burin Peninsula Laubach Literacy Council, her church, and the Epworth and Great Salmonier Local Service District, and spending many hours in the company of her good friends.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, James and Florence Fowler; mother- and father-in-law, Joseph and Flora Manning; sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Patrick Drake; brother and sister-in-law, James and Catherine Fowler; husband, John Manning; in-laws, Mabel Moulton, Karen Cleal, Jack Walsh, and Dale Tobin; and special uncle, Walton Manning.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 95 Main Street, Burin.
The Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart RC Church in Marystown, with interment at Epworth United Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to Daffodil Place, Ronald McDonald House, Grace Sparkes House, and the Burin Peninsula SPCA.
