Obituary of Cecil Myles
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cecil Myles announces his peaceful passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at the age of 87.
Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his sisters, Esther Mitchell of Lewin's Cove and Elsie Rose of Conception Bay South; sisters-in-law, Bertha Hawse and Mae Hawse; brothers-in-law, Willie, Henry, and Melvin Hawse; and his special friend, Viola Shepherd, nieces, nephews. He also leaves behind a large circle of extended family, friends, and the dedicated staff and residents of the St. Lawrence Retirement Living Centre.
Cecil was born in Boxey, Fortune Bay, on October 18, 1938. His early life was marked by resilience; following the loss of his mother when he was only 11 months old, he was raised by a caring family in Harbour Mille while his father worked at sea. In the 1970s, Cecil and his father moved to Salt Pond, where they lived together until his father’s passing.
Life changed beautifully for Cecil in 1985 when he married the love of his life, Rose. The two eventually moved to Bay L’Argent, where they shared many years with their dear friend Viola Sheppard before transitioning to the St. Lawrence Retirement Living Centre. Cecil and Rose were fixtures of the St. Lawrence retirement community for over 17 years, and the family is deeply grateful to the staff who became like a second family to them.
A quiet and gentle man, Cecil found his greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved walking through the woods and visiting the St. Lawrence docks to watch the boats come in. He had a particularly soft heart for animals; any stray cat that crossed his path was quickly given a name and brought in out of the cold.
Cecil was predeceased by his devoted wife, Rose Myles (née Hawse); his parent's John Tom and Emily Jane Myles; his sister Florence Budgen; brothers-in-law, Clifford Mitchell, Reg Budgen, and Baxter Rose; and his parents-in-law Joseph and Edna Hawse.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Viola Sheppard and the team at the St. Lawrence Retirement Living Centre for the exceptional care and love shown to both Cecil and Rose over the years.
In keeping with Cecil’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Serenity Funeral Home.
