Obituary of Hilda Vera Saunders
It is with deep sadness that the family of Hilda Saunders announces her peaceful passing on Friday, December 26, 2025. She died at the age of 83 at the Marystown Retirement Centre formerly of Brookside, NL.
Hilda Saunders was a remarkable woman whose presence shaped our family in countless ways. She loved her family fiercely-so much so that, if she had her way, everyone would have been home with her all the time. Her hands were rarely still; she love to sew, crochet, and hook mats creating warmth and beauty in everything she made Hilda also loved to cook for a crowd, finding joy in feeding the people she cared for and bringing everyone together around the table. She was incredibly smart and took great pleasure in doing puzzles and playing Scrabble, sometimes even letting you win just to make you smile. She was a force- strong, loving, and unforgettable and she was a huge part of all our lives. We all love you to the moon and back, until we meet again.
Hilda is survived by her children: she was a proud and loving mother to daughter Debra (Derick Smith) of Fort McMurray, AB; sons Douglas Saunders (Gloria) of Fort McMurray, AB, Thomas Saunders (Juanita) of Fort McMurray, AB, Robert Saunders (Renee) of Boat Harbour, NL; precious granddaughters Miranda Smith (Sheldon) of Fort McMurray, AB, Chelsea Smith of Fort McMurray, AB, and her pride and joy great-grandson Brenden Banfield of Fort McMurray, AB; sisters Carrie Matterface of Boat Harbour, NL, and Maude Walters of St. John’s, NL; plus a large circle of many nieces and nephews and friends.
