Obituary of Joanne Elaine Mayo

Please share a memory of Joanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Joanne Elaine Mayo of Marystown, NL, formerly of Salt Pond, NL, at the age of 53 years at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Sunday, October 12, 2025. Our beloved Joanne was a force of nature whose wit and creativity left a lasting mark on all who knew her. A loving partner, dedicated mom, proud nan, and loyal friend, her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter filled every room.

Joanne leaves behind her loving partner of 27 years Jerry Fitzpatrick of Marystown, daughter Jerri-ann Fitzpatrick of Stephenville, NL, son Mason Fitzpatrick of Marystown, NL, her 2 precious grandsons Brody Burke & John Fitzpatrick-Warren, her beautiful granddaughter Sophia Burke; siblings Donald Mayo of Ottawa, Leland Jr. Mayo of Ontario, Albert Mayo of Marystown, Eleanor Mayo of St. John’s, NL, special close friends Traci Follett and Veronica Barnes; especially her furry friend Felix also a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly.

Joanne was born one of seven children to Melita and Leland Mayo of Salt Pond, Burin NL. She was known for her quick witted remarks and her brilliant, creative mind. She could turn a simple afternoon into a garage sale masterpiece or transform found treasures into unique works of art. Her home was a testament to her creativity, always filled with projects in various stages of completion. Joanne's other great loves included her coffee double double of course, weekly bingo scratch tickets she meticulously chose. She cherished the familiar faces and friendly friend at Smallwood community centre where she was a well-known and much-loved figure. More than anything she loved the camaraderie and the gossip that came with it.

Above all, Joanne treasured her family. She was a devoted partner to Jerry, loving parent to Jerri-ann and Mason and found her greatest joy in her role as a doting grandmother to Brody, John and Sophia. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a passion for life that will be carried on by her family and friends.
