Obituary of David Levi Taylor

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with immense sadness that the family of David Levi Taylor announce his passing at the age of 71. He passed, surrounded by family, on Thursday, July 17th 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Daphne; children Krystle (Owen) and Matthew (Cherie); his pride and joy, granddaughter Abby; brothers Bill (Patsy), Ernest (Rosalind), Jack (Janice), Wayne (Angela), and Hughie (Joanne); sisters Sylvia, Florence, Phyllis (Morley), Elaine (Josh), and Trudy; brothers-in-law Clyde (Fay), Robert (Jeannine), and Dennis (Cammie); sisters-in-law Joyce (Pat), Jean (Jack), Marilyn (Roy), Judy, Kathy (Brian), Shirley (Calvin), Karen (Melvin), Shelley, and Wanda (Thomas) plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and his Port au Bras walking buddies.

Predeceased by parents Charles and Rita; parents-in-law Clyde and Alice Lee; sister Blanche, sister-in-law Pearl Lee; brothers-in-law Mike Keating, Tom Dodge and Cecil Hillier.

Dave was born in 1953, and lived his entire life in Port au Bras, a place of which he was so proud. He met the love of his life, Daphne, in 1977, and they shared 48 wonderful years together. He started working at the Marystown Shipyard that same year and retired in 2010 after a 33-year career as a blacksmith/steel worker.

He was an extremely kind, gentle, and quiet man who loved to laugh and make others do the same. He was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, although he often criticized their game-play. He taught himself to play the guitar and the accordion, and he loved to sing in the comfort of his own home. His guilty pleasures were chocolate bars, as evidenced by those hidden around the house, and a glass bottle of Coke.

Although we wish he had more time, we are grateful he was able to enjoy 15 years of retirement doing the things he loved – spending time with his family, especially Abby, taking multiple walks daily around Port au Bras, stopping to chat with anyone he passed, enjoying the view from his patio, or simply lending a helping hand. We could not have asked for a better husband, Dad, or Pop. He loved us dearly, as we did him.

We would like to extend our appreciation to the Health Sciences staff of 4 North A, especially NP Katie Brazil, and nurses Brooklyn, Heidi, Maria, Megan, Regan, and Twinkle; also to Glennis, at the Cancer Clinic in Burin, for making him laugh on his treatment days.

The family will be accepting friends and visitors at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin, on Sunday, July 20th, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Port au Bras.

The funeral service will take place at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Port au Bras, on Monday July 21, 2025 4PM with interment following at the St. Andrew's Anglican Cemetery, Port au Bras.
