
Obituary of Onslow Day
It is with deep sadness that the family of the Onslow Day of Garnish announce his passing. Onslow passed peacefully away at his home in Garnish on Thursday May 15 2025 at the age of 90.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are brothers, Lloyd Day (Meta) of Garnish NL, Herbert Day of Garnish NL, James Day (Doris) of Garnish NL, Gerald Day (Lillian) of Garnish NL; sisters, Bernice Day (Bill) of Toronto ON, Sadie Grandy (Lloyd) of Garnish NL, Margaret Sweet of Halifax NS, and Joan Inkpen of Halifax NS; brother-in-law, Sherman Harfitt of Lewins Cove NL, numerous nieces and nephews plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Onslow was predeceased by his parents, William & Ethel Day; sister Jean Harfitt and brother Victor Day, sisters-in-law Lucy Day, Cora Day, brothers-in-law Gerald Sweet and Gerald Inkpen.
One of eleven children, he was the much loved brother of Lloyd, Herbert, James, Gerald, Victor, Jean, Bernice, Sadie, Margaret and Joan. His parents, William and Ethel Day, instilled him with a sense of compassion and honesty, which shaped his approach to life and made him valued and respected by all who knew him. As a young man he started fishing and then lobstering, eventually deciding to leave the sea and worked at Light and Power. He was a true friend, generous and committed to helping those in need. He was humorous, gentle mannered and strong all at the same time. He loved moose hunting, fishing, going on his quad and catching rabbits, and waiting for the moose that sometimes came, more often not. He was the definition of an outdoorsmen.
In keeping with Onslow wishes cremation will take place.
A celebration of Onslow life will be held at Serenity Chapel Burin on Tuesday May 20 2025 2PM with inurnment following at Salvation Army cemetery Garnish.
