Ruby spent her life taking care of others. Ruby loved going on dates with her husband Monroe, where they would often get in the car for a drive and end up 3 or 4 hours away from home just to try a restaurant that someone mentioned. She loved all things jewelry, but was not showy enough to wear it out in public. She was caring, loving, kind, funny, fiercely loyal and thought of others before herself always. She was the epitome of selfless, looking after her siblings, children, grandchildren, daycare kids, anyone she met. She raised her 3 children as well as half of the children in Kitchener, ON as she operated a successful day care in her home under the Waterloo Region Home Child Care Program for 30 years. The children she babysat became lifelong family and often came back as adults to invite her to their weddings and to introduce them to their own children!!! Having a home full of children, family, and friends was when she was happiest. They moved back to Garnish, NL almost 3 years ago after living in Kitchener, ON for 40 plus years. She was phenomenal in the kitchen!!! If she saw a recipe on TV or tasted a dish in a restaurant she would recreate that dish, often better than the chef/baker that had created it. Everyone loved her famous chocolate chip cookies that were more like a meal than a treat. She loved music, and especially Newfoundland music. She always had music on in the kitchen and lately, even though bed ridden, music made her feet tap and her shoulders dance. That is how we will remember her. Ruby will be remembered and deeply missed by all who loved her.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes, cremation will take place.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
To home care worker Amanda Luj and Preston Tilley (aka Perky) and Blue Crest Interfaith Home, Grand Bank, we would like to thank you for looking after our wife, Ruby, mom and nan through thick and thin.
