James William Kirby

In Loving Memory of James William Kirby

September 13, 1947 – April 5, 2026

It is with heavy hearts, but many happy memories, that we announce the peaceful passing of James William Kirby at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

James was a man who lived for a good laugh. Whether he was sharing a joke on the floor of the Burin fish plant or strumming his guitar at home, he knew that a song and a smile were the best ways to get through the day. He was a simple man who found his greatest wealth in his family.

For nearly 58 years, James was devoted to the love of his life, Kathleen. Together, they raised two sons, Robert and Darren, who were truly the apple of his eye. When Darren married Carolann, James heart grew even bigger—he was so proud to finally call her his daughter. But perhaps no one could make him light up quite like his grandson, Aaron. The two of them were a team, always trading jokes and keeping the rest of the family on their toes.

James is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathleen; his sons, Robert (Burin) and Darren (wife Carolann) of Marystown, NL; and his pride and joy, grandson Aaron. He also leaves behind his sisters, Marion Crawford (NS) and Betty Foote of London, ON, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends who will miss his quick wit and kind spirit.

He joins his parents, William and Alma Kirby, and his sister, Eileen Neil, who went before him.

In keeping with James simple wishes, cremation has taken place.

A celebration of his life—filled with the stories and music he loved. Family will be receiving friends on Thursday April 9, 2026 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for their care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in James memory may be made directly to the family.
